II. Research Summary
Courtney'sresearch showed:
When it comes down to it, the schools number one priority is to do what is in the best interest for the student. With such a recessed economy, it is difficult for the fundings for the schools to be remain at, or near what they used to be. Due to budget cuts, schools have had to make drastic changes in which programs are seen as more necessary, those that aren't are being cut resulting in teachers loosing their jobs and changes in the curriculum for the students. If a teacher is lucky enough to keep their job, they are struggling with having supplies necessary for their students.
Jessie'sresearch showed:
Schools can benefit greatly from including art programs into their curriculum. It has been proven that schools with art education perform higher on national achievement tests. The arts can help students socially, emotionally, and academically. They provide children with a different and unique learning environment that allows them to express themselves and have fun while learning. They allow teachers to be more flexible and give way to better teacher-to-student relationships and even student-student relationships. The arts also helps students develop better learning habits, increases confidence, enhances creativity, and gets the brain thinking in a different way. Overall, art education improves student performance; it enhances better school relationships and increases academic achievement. Schools that emphasize the use of art programs in their curriculum are much more likely to succeed.
Jarrah'sresearch showed: Children have more of a chance to succeed because of the availability of arts within public schools. Students have the opportunity to express themselves and show their individuality and creativity. Studies show that arts allow students to let go of the normal stresses in the classroom- and take time to escape and use their brain in a different way. Without the stresses, students are able to focus more and expand their abilities in the classroom. Also within having art in the classroom- it allows not only visual learners to develop better cognitive and memorization skills. Overall, students are more accessible to do better academically if they have the opportunity to have art within their classroom. It allows children to relate learning to fun, and students are more eager to learn when there are games, activities, drawing, singing or dancing involved. Students forget they are learning in this environment; which is becoming beneficial, to not only the students, but the teachers as well. Art within academics is the secret of success for all students.
Ana'sresearch showed: It is obvious that children naturally love art. They love to dance, draw, paint and act. It is part of being a child and it also has an emotional value that will last a lifetime. Arts in schools are important to have because of the emotional benefits. Art is a form of therapy and it’s a way children can express themselves without using words. It is hard for children to communicate with adults using a question and answer method, especially with their limited vocabulary, it seems intimidating. With arts a child can communicate mainly if they have mental problems. They have suffered a loss, have emotional problems or just about anything without feeling embarrassed or ashamed. An art in a school is also beneficial psychologically when using the brain. The brain works better when both hemispheres are used to stimulate learning. In most schools only the left hemisphere is stimulated because the left hemisphere is used for logic such as math, reading and writing. In schools that promote art, both the left and the right hemisphere are being stimulated because the right hemisphere is used for creativity like drawing, music, and acting. This benefits children by allowing them to observe the world with more detail, thinking outside the box when answering a question, and going beyond learning skills and expressing a voice. By combining the arts in an everyday school it is proven that a child becomes more confident in themselves, they have a better time communicating with others and collaborating with classmates. A child that has been involved in arts is more eager to go to school and learn, and is overall a happier person.
